Kempner Veteran Receives No-Cost Roof

In a heartwarming display of community support and gratitude for military service, we partnered with Mottco Roofing & Construction to install a new roof for Kempner resident and veteran Julie Bass-Smith.

No-Cost Roof for Texas Veteran

What began as a challenging situation of “bad luck” for Bass-Smith transformed into an uplifting success story. In the Spring of 2023, her home was pummeled by hail and wind – leaving her in need of a roof replacement.

“Even though I was medically discharged from the U.S. Army, I’m still on a fixed income,” Smith said. “It was all I could do to come up with the $7,000 deductible necessary for the work to be done.”

We were able to step in to deliver durable, high-quality roofing at no cost, ensuring safe shelter for a deserving hero.

This initiative highlights the mission of TroopsNeedRoofs.org to honor veterans’ sacrifices by addressing critical housing needs, one roof at a time, and serves as an inspiring example of how collective action can make a tangible difference in the lives of those who served our nation.
